The boys from old Florida looked a little sloppy in the win against Southern Mississippi on Saturday, but I’m still delighted with the win.

Some observations from the game:

• Dallas Baker is a terrific receiver.
• No way we beat FSU with the running game we put out there vs. USM.
• DeShaun Wynn is strong like bull!
• For all his tough-guy demeanor, Coach Meyer’s offense sure seems awfully delicate.
• Tebow’s only playfake was really well-sold.
• Leak is still my man.
• I saw my boy Billy Latsko miss a block! What kind of scheme are we running where this guy has to come halfway across the field to hit somebody- he’s the fullback for cryin out loud!
• I’d forgotten how good our punter is!
• Looks like the new kid Harvin (anybody notice Nat Moore called him ‘Harvins’ all night long?) is gonna be crazy good.
• There was great blocking from the newbs up front on the Wynn TD run. I love how DeShaun hits 93 right after he’s been set up by the line.

Some notes from the other games I watched:

• Rutgers RB Ray Rice just pwned the UNC defensive front seven. Every time UNC failed to bring the 8th man up, you could see Rutgers check to the run—cause they knew!
• I took twenty bucks from a friend who gave me Rutgers + 17.5.
• I feel awful for that Louisville kid that snapped his tibia. The injury looked unbelievably painful, and obviously, beating Kentucky ain’t exactly worth it. I hope he gets a shot at the NFL this spring.
• Michigan looked as hinky as Florida did- but I would pick USM over Vandy..
• Both Miami’s and FSU’s defenses looked terrific last night. I was really impressed.
• Kentucky’s QB has a gorgeous touch on the deep ball.
• The backup (now starter) for Mississippi State reminds be a ton of Vince Young. Lanky, lefty, smooth. He threw the prettiest INT I’ve seen in a while. :)

Also, did anybody see that the Buffalo Bills just signed Chris Leak’s brother CJ to their practice squad (as a TE)? Call me crazy, but I think they’re just getting the sell together for next year- when they DRAFT my boy Chris! You heard it here first!!

Some other notes:

• Played poker on our new table surface a couple weeks ago- lost horribly to Alex. But loved the event.
• Weather has been super grill-friendly.
• Scheduled a last minute trip to see Bucs @ Carolina this year with Feldt.
• Going to see Bengals @ Bucs in October with Rocks N Rings and Yogi.
