iPhone: Coverage Roundup II

Posted Jul 7, 12:55 PM in Apple by Scott Conley

It would seem that the aftershock wave is nigh. My half-day investment in the other Ian, as the Bride and I think of him, has paid rich British dividends, and I again welcome the small raft of visitors from the UK who are a-hunting after my cheeky mug made the rounds on Click. I will post the video link as soon as it hits the archive, but in the interim, enjoy Ian’s print article. He generously granted me two quotes, and in the second at least, I don’t sound like a complete prat (am I using this correctly?)

In another hilarious video turn, both Geoff and I get serious camera time in a Flash piece uploaded on the USA Today : (not clickable here)

Look for this panel (not clickable here) on USA Today's page.

Super nerd and colleague (from the Good Looking side of the Galioto Tree) Patrick Farley reported spotting me on New York 360 last night, but I’m unable to find a link to any video.

I can’t resist posting the link to Pogue’s iPhone musical video. We saw them shooting it while we were lined up, and I appear briefly (though not featured) over the shoulder of one of the soloists! It’s also a pretty entertaining piece.

Lastly, I will post an analytics update mid-week and reveal the impact that the one of the world’s finest journalistic brands had on one man’s quiet blog. (Translated for my dad: I’ll tell you how many people visited because I was on BBC TV!)

If diffusion is the process by which a new idea or new product is accepted by the market, would you consider yourself an early adopter?

Diffusion unfortunately doesn’t enter into it in this case, as there was no way to adopt any earlier!

However, I would consider Apple’s unique market advantage (mass-market software updates to a cellular phone) mean that while I may technically be an early adopter, the ‘early’ period will be (knock on wood) very short..

There’s one step above Early Adopter in diffusion research: the Innovator, who adopts “at the very beginning” (Gladwell, The_Tipping_Point). I’d say Day One qualifies.

“I only have room in my pocket for one piece of hardware” ... interesting, I’m betting the Mrs is very glad of that! Is that why programmers are an “endangered species”?
